The objective of the CDP training program is to develop knowledge, skills and abilities that will qualify the trainee to join our international Field Services (FS) organization as a Field Services Advisor. The Field Services organization consists of a group of international employees who provide worldwide startup and commissioning services to oil refineries and petrochemical plants. Field Service Advisors are expected to cross check the physical installation of refinery equipment to insure compliance with the design specifications. Subsequently, they advise the client refinery personnel in all aspects of commissioning and operations. UOP has a formal Career Development Program that is used to train all new employees for this role by utilizing our developmental pilot plant facilities. Trainees are assigned to operations and service roles to progressively gain relevant transferable experience.

In the Career Development Program, the trainees will be exposed to a variety of functions including Research and Process Development, Regional Services, Technical Service, and/ or Customer Training. Trainees will gain experience in one or more of UOP’s key refining and petrochemical technologies with a variety of activities that may include operating pilot plants, defining experiments, designing, troubleshooting and/ or servicing UOP process units, and performing other challenging assignments. Following this CDP training program, engineers will transfer to Field Operating Service (FOS). In FOS they will travel full time at least 4 years on assignments to multiple locations around the world supporting UOP customers in operating plants as a process engineer and advisor.

DESIGN ENGINEER - Career Development Engineer Plan – Gas and Hydrogen Modular Plants
Position Overview/Responsibilities:
This position will be in the Gas and Hydrogen Modular Plants Center. This Center is responsible for the design, supply, and commissioning of Process systems utilizing Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA), membranes, LNG recovery and other technologies which meet company and customer specifications. This position would be ideal for an individual who would enjoy having a hands on experience with a variety of responsibilities from control system design/programming, instrumentation and process. It also offers the opportunity to design systems and then see the results of your work by being involved in checkout and commissioning. We are interested in candidates who are flexible, take initiative, possess good communication skills, enjoy doing hands on work in the field and have an interest in process engineering, controls and instrumentation. This position offers a career minded individual an excellent opportunity for growth and advancement.
Training Plan
First 6 months – one year – Development Engineer / PSA Process Sales Support
Learn PSA and Gas Processing fundamentals preparing performance and cost estimates
· Perform data analysis
· Understand simulation tools
· Gain understanding of applications and markets served
· Work with experienced engineers in preparing designs for commercial units
· Gain understanding of adsorption fundamentals and adsorption processes
· Provide system selection and performance estimates
· Interact with the pilot plants and R&D skill centers
Prepare for process design and system start-up assignments by on-the-job training including participation in field work
· Learn PSA and membrane process design and hydraulics
· Prepare Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s)
· Learn to specify and procure equipment and instrumentation
· Learn control theory and PID loop tuning
· Learn Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming and Wonderware (user interface) design
· Learn Control Panel design
· Perform Control Panel inspection and testing at vendor shops
Following this training period candidate should expect to spend minimum 3 years participating in system checkout and start up spending the majority of their time in the field. Office based activities are completed in between assignments as time allots.
DESCRIPTION OF FULL TIME RESPONSIBILITIES
You will be part of a process group working on projects individually or as part of a team. Responsibilities are as follows:
FIELD SERVICES - Field support requires on-site responsibility lasting from two weeks to three months depending on project complexity or complications.
- Supervise loading of adsorbent. Ensure work is performed as per UOP requirements.
- Complete field checkouts of UOP supplied equipment. Ensure complete functionality of all valves, instrumentation, control panel and peripheral equipment.
- Complete startup of UOP supplied equipment. Optimize unit performance, monitor feed and product compositions and tune control loops. Ensure unit meets all design guarantees.
- Provide support services on new and revamped units. Including working closely with the client's plant engineers on calibration and tuning of various components.
- Follow recommended safety procedures and UOP company policies.
- Provide feedback including suggested improvements on UOP process and process control designs.
- Manage business expenses to meet both project and cost center budgets.
PROJECT SERVICES
- Perform PLC programming utilizing developed program standards
- Perform HMI (User Interface) design
- Design and manage fabrications of control system
- Complete sales support activities relating to process and controls
- Work with equipment vendors on specifications and procurement of equipment
- Complete assigned project work per the agreed budget and schedule
- Keep Project Manager informed of progress on assigned tasks. Bring any problems with man-hour overruns or schedule delays to the Project Manager as early as possible
- Attend and participate in project team meetings
- Contribute and participate in customer meetings as assigned and agreed with the Project Manager
- Application of current design practices and tools for completion of assigned tasks
- Document all calculations and work processes in a clear, concise format
